This title is the second in a series of four books which are based on the communicative approach to language learning; a modern approach to the teaching of French as a foreign language. This book highlights the acquisition of the four basic language skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing, which are well balanced throughout the book. As much as emphasis is laid on communicative skills, grammar has been given due emphasis. This book has adapted the conventional theories and principles of teaching and learning of a foreign language. It has infused emerging issues, such as modern trends of technology, health issues, environmental conservation, economic integration (that is, the European Union and the Euro currency) and a rational approach to gender parity, as is outlined in the national objectives of education and also reflected in the general objectives of Secondary School education. It is tailor-made to fit the recommendations and challenges of the revised Secondary School Syllabus, which strives to impart the appropriate language skills to be tested at the end of the four year course, when the learners sit for the national examination. This book has taken into consideration the special case of the non-francophone learner.This is a sequel of book 1 in which the learner is treated as a true beginner [Le vrai débutant]. In book 2, however, the learner is assumed to have acquired the basic notions of the French language. He or she is therefore regarded as Le faux débutant. Therefore, book 2 is a systematic build-up of grammar, vocabulary, fixed linguistic expressions and certain aspects of culture to help the learner build some fairly good command of the French language and understand certain advanced notions about French as a foreign language.
