Yes, the BUKU library features a wide range of free books which can be read without a subscription. BUKU is always working on expanding its Open Access range.
BUKU tries its best to achieve the broadest possible range with as many publishers as possible. You are able to check whether your books are included on our website and app. Because more and more publishers will join, the offer will steadily increase.
BUKU works on the following browsers: FireFox, Chrome, Edge, and Safari. For Internet Explorer users we have created a desktop app.
A BUKU monthly subscription can be cancelled monthly. An annual subscription can only be cancelled annually. Log into your BUKU account and go to settings to manage or cancel your subscription.
With a BUKU subscription, you will have unlimited access to all books in the library. It is also possible to use a limited number of books offline via the mobile apps.
All teachers in higher education can make unlimited use of BUKU for free via SURFconext. Do you want to know more? Please feel free to contact us via firstname.lastname@example.org.
Teachers are free to use BUKU as they see fit and are not restricted in any way. A great advantage is that BUKU can also exist next to regular books. For instance, during a class, there may be a mix of students who are using 'regular' books and students who are using BUKU. Of course, BUKU has the advantage that students can make unlimited use of a huge number of books.
SURFconext allows teachers to be authorized free of charge. However, every educational institution must first activate BUKU manually. If your education institution is not yet available, please contact the IT / System administration department of your educational institution.
BUKU uses the so-called ‘pay-per-view’ model. ‘View’ is defined in time (seconds). The time a subscriber uses certain content is offset against the total content usage time of the subscriber in one month. The publisher whose content was relatively used the longest by the subscriber in that month receives the largest part of the relevant subscription fee. This method gives publishers fair compensation for the use of their content and creates very valuable reading statistics for these publishers.
The BUKU platform works with the ePub3 standard. This is because ePub3 offers possibilities for integrating interactive content into the eBooks. This way, BUKU wants to work with publishers to have books evolve and become more interactive, which has considerable educational benefits.
